Energy is very vital for the development of any country and has to ensure the availability & reliability of  energy.

The world is still dominated by the conventional energy causing lot of emissions culminating in global warming &climate change. This in turn is causing huge  natural calamities, and consequential  health  hazards. Almost 70 percent of the fuel consumption goes to Transport and domestic sector & fossil fuel reserves are fast depleting. As per the present studies the fossil fuel reserves will not last long for more than 4 decades.  The world has to face energy shortage at global level. Although alternatives to fossil fuel are now being popularized it is yet to make impact on the energy usage by fossil fuel. Therefore energy conservation and energy efficiency are the inevitable remedies.

Energy consumption is dependent on the type of the task performed . For example in case of transportation sector the task performed is defined as the number of passenger-Km travelled in a car & efficiency is the ratio of passenger-Km to that of energy used. It’s clear from the above that energy can be saved either by reducing the task or by increasing the efficiency.

However, energy efficiency alone cannot ensure reduced energy consumption & energy conservation is the need of the hour to avert fast depletion of energy sources & climate change effects.

The popular slogan “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”  is very much relevant in the present context.

Some of the energy conservation measures are listed below

  1. Use green energy.
  2. Save energy by avoiding wasteful energy & by energy efficiency measures.
  3. Change in food habits behavior.
  4. Sharing & caring.
  5. Encourage local produce and organic farming.
  6. Using Public transportation.
  7. Educating the users and the children to bring awareness.
  8. Popularize star rated or branded equipment.
  9. Planting more number of trees.
